As a Local 5 Helper,  our members can get started in the trade. Helpers on the job help with logistics of a project by loading, unloading, distribution and stockpiling of tools, materials and equipment, including the relocation of stockpiles, at job sites. Some projects require setting up and tearing down of scaffolds and cleaning of fixtures and equipment. Helpers also help maintain the jobsites by sweeping and removal of debris to make it safe for our brothers and sisters to work on the job. Other tasks include assisting journeymen with the installation of exterior sewers, including bell-holing, crumbling, the installation of lawn sprinkling systems and sewer cleaning, and any other such work as may be agreed to by the Business Manager.

HELPER DUTIES

• Assisted licensed plumbers with installation and repair of pipes, fixtures and water systems.
  
• Measured, cut and assembled piping using hand and power tools.
  
• Carried and positioned heavy materials and equipment to support job tasks.
  
• Follow pluming codes, safety regulations, and company procedures.
  
• Hold or hand tools and materials to plumbers during task.
  
• Maintained tools, materials, and job site organization.
  
• Clean up after the job and properly dispose of debris.
  
• Shadow the licensed plumber to gain hand-on training toward becoming an apprentice or journeyman.
