About Us - Local 5

Since 1890, the Plumbers & Gasfitters Local Union 5 has been committed to “Protecting the Health” of our Nation’s Capital. From the bathroom fixtures through the sewers below the street, to the treatment plants we safeguard the water supply for the health of our communities and protect our environment for future generations with treatment plants for waste water. We accomplish this by providing the best skilled craftsmen to perform the installation, maintenance and service to the plumbing industry. Training our Apprentices through our tuition free five-year apprenticeship program and with continuing education classes for our journeymen, we are able to keep our Plumbers & Gasfitters the “best” craftsmen in the trade.

Today, we are a growing organization representing over 1,600 members. As members, along with their families they enjoy company paid benefits administered by Local 5 and they are: health & welfare, pension, retirement savings, and vacation funds.

Local 5 is proud of our commitment to our community by participating in the “Heat’s On, Water’s Off”, which services needy families for the upcoming winter and our Apprentices charitable activities which include their Thanksgiving Food Drive and Christmas Toys for Orphaned Children.

We promote legislation to further improve the living standards of all working families and communicate with state agencies when workers rights and standards are not being upheld.

We have made these commitments to our members and our community for over one hundred years and will dedicate ourselves to be there for our future generations.
